| THE
SOCIAL SIDE OF FLYING
Periodic
solo/wings parties are held where recently qualified
pilots receive their wings and are initiated into
the flying fraternity in spectacular fashion.
On a more serious note, frequent Safety
Seminars are presented. Various topics are covered and any pilot who is serious
about safety, will not miss a single one of them.
Examples of topics covered are ‘personal minima’s,
‘pitfalls when flying at night’, ‘pilot
attitude versus altitude’, ‘critical decision
making’ and the like. We often make use of specialists
in their field such as a doctor approved for flying
medicals to discuss various health issues. On these
evenings our cash-bar is always open and many incredible
stories have been heard around the counter. Whether
from the serious presentation or from the sociability
afterwards, every pilot comes away with a tip or ten
to keep his/her flying as safe as possible.
Compared to when you were at school, this school is fun! During lessons students relax by playing a few sets of table-tennis (ping-pong) or pool. In summer, the pool is a lovely refresher when it can get really hot. In winter the fire is lit and a game of finger-board keeps temperatures high.
