Hi Cheryl,
Good show! He will simply have to fly and scratch as often as possible to get a good number of entries in for the draw! We 'll hold thumbs for him!
Nice weekend,
Sonja.

Hi Sonja,

You do realise that, once again, you have now started something right?? My dear husband is now avidly insisting that he just HAS TO HAVE one of those damn jackets. What do you suggest dear wise one?

Love,

Cheryl

Hi Justin,
Sorry for the late reply. It was financial year-end and I'm only getting to the blog again today. I will forward your enquiry to Shaun. Alternatively, send him a mail directly to shnfraser@yahoo.com. I'm sure he will assist you. I realise that the cost of flight training is immensely high. Bursaries and sponsorships however are very hard to come by. I know that 43rd in Port Alfred does have a program but I am under the impression that it is for PPL's who are starting out only. There is of course the Aeropace Chamber that also award grants but PFS does not deal with them. Sorry that I don't have a more positive feedback for you.

31/03/1973 My first dual was with EVP for 1-05 S Wright was the instructor. On 05/05/1973 I was sent solo (12-55) by D Wright in EXO. On 24/06/1973 I did my P.P.L. in FGM, D. Bilson did the test. The total cost thereof including the radio licence was R650! I then applied and was granted a government subsidy, which at the time was R150. If I remember correctly, we paid R13.00 solo and R14.50 dual for the 140. I obtained an overdraft from Trust Bank to pay for the licence. I served on the club committee and was responsible for the bar. My wife, Tersia, and I were involved with the arrangement of a few social events at the club and I (DJ) was responsible for the disco. And yes, I was one of the old gang who supported the swimming pool idea. The instructors definitely enjoyed the pool after flying on hot Protoria Summer days. K Smith did my renewal P.P.L. 2/11/1975. Other instructors were C Erasmus, N Minnaar, B Margolius, P. Fourie and who will ever forget Al Pinto and his famous LM Prawn braais. O boy, could we party - Remember Ranch Motel Fly Aways where Black Velvet was especially mixed for Pretoria Flying club and served in a gigantic trophy! We were charged R20 per person for a one night stay at the hotel, which included meals and tea/coffee.

I see you have stated that your flight instructor was Graham Gush, he was my father who unfortunetly has passed on about 11 years ago. Let me tell you that my father was a passionate pilot and he would never have done anything else in his life - flying was his life.

Opening my logbook I see my very first flight in a small general aviation aircraft was on November 22 1991 in ZS-IAX with Jean Chelin. This day was the beginning of a very special and rewarding experience. Thanks Jean for teaching me the wonder of flight. Keep it up.

PS. I when I look at your picture time surely passed at Mach numbers
