Wynand was ready to be sent solo on 4th March 2010 and can be seen here coming in for the landing. Certainly the stuff that dreams are made of!

Congratulations Wynand!
Here he is giving Mom a very wet hug after having been thrown in the pool.

WELCOME TO THE PFS FAMILY DEON!
“After finishing high school, I hadn’t yet decided on a career-path to follow and decided to take a gap-year. I went to Canada to work on a rugby summer camp as I knew that this would generate some very welcome income and also give me an opportunity to experience life abroad. When I got back after a year I went flying with one of my friends who had just acquired his PPL and I absolutely loved it. I started to seriously consider a career in Aviation. I had to however make a plan to get the necessary finance and I went to the UK for another year to earn enough money to pay for my PPL which I finished in 2004 at Nelair in Nelspruit which is my hometown. During that same year I enrolled for B.Com Aviation Management at the University of Pretoria and obtained my degree at the end of 2006. I was then ready to focus my full attention on getting my CPL. I continued my training at Babcock Central Flying Academy at Grand Central Airport. After another stint in the UK to pay for my IF Rating, I obtained my CPL in June 2009. In November of 2009 I completed my Instructor’s Rating, also at Babcock CFA.
After sending out numerous CV’s to flying schools, PFS was the first to invite me for an interview. After passing my proficiency check with the CFI, Jean Chelin, I started giving instruction. PFS has welcomed me with open arms and working here feels like home away from home. I’m looking forward to a great career in Aviation and many hours of Flight Instruction at PFS.
When I’m not flying I’m either taking part in some type of sport activity or watching the latest rugby game on TV. I am a staunch Sharks supporter and being open and honest about that in the middle of Blue Bull territory must say something about my fearlessness.”

JASON CONGRATULATES DAVID
Due to working commitments David can only train over weekends and after months of low cloud, rain and strong wind David was eventually ready to go solo on Friday, 26th February 2010. Congrats David! It seems the worst of the rainy season is over now so here’s wishing you many happy landings!

OWEN VUYK'S FIRST SOLO
On the same perfect Saturday, 6 February 2010 Owen was more than ready to go solo. Owen already holds a MPL with 200 hours on the Cheetah. Reaching solo stage on the C172 was therefore mere formality for Owen.

ANOTHER KIND OF SOLO!
Owen enrolled in the first week of January and he has already passed 4 of the 7 required PPL subjects with 100% in Meteorology. Truly a stunning achievement.
Well done Owen!

READY TO WEAR 'THE T-SHIRT'

THABO BACK FROM HIS FIRST SOLO FLIGHT!
After a month of constant low cloud and rain, Saturday 6 February was perfect. After some quick arrangements Thabo was ready for his first solo and his first words when the door opened were; “I want to go back up!”
Soon dear Thabo, soon….
First go solo into the pool!!

"I DID IT DAD!"
Congratulations from all at PFS!

NICO CELEBRATES HIS PPL
Not even the rainy conditions over the past few weeks could dampen Nico’s spirits. He was dead-set on completing his PPL before having to leave for another two-month stint working in Afghanistan. And he made it! Well done Nico!

WERNER FLYING THE KINGAIR ON OUR WX-400 SIMULATOR
After Werner’s horrendous motorcycle accident on October 6th last year and almost three months in hospital, he couldn’t wait to get into our WX-400 simulator to prove to himself that he was still able to fly. And moreover able to control the rudder and brake with his prosthesis. On behalf of Werner I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and well-wishes over the past few months. I believe that we will be reading about Werner’s flying accomplishments quite regularly, so watch this space!

ELSABE VAN NIEKERK - SOLO - 15 JAN 2010
It certainly is chick-week at PFS. Elsabè van Niekerk was sent solo on Friday, 15th January 2010, just two days after Zenobia went solo. Well done Elsabè! As per the famous diva, Annie Lennox, ‘Sisters are doing it for themselves’ this week.

ZENOBIA SAAIJMAN SHOWING OFF HER SOLO T-SHIRT
Our first solo student for 2010 is Zenobia Saaijman. Well done Zenobia, many happy landings for you in 2010!
Shane was sent solo on the 14th November 2009. And like every good pilot he still remembered to tie-down after the flight regardless of all the excitement. Well done Shane!
